Cargo Operations Controller

Role Purpose

To coordinate and supervise cargo operations and to monitor staff responsible for the processing of international cargo at Adelaide Airport.

Main accountabilities include:  

• Ensure that productivity and performance criteria are met in the designated area of responsibility, which includes fulfilling regular performance assessment reports
• Assist with assess staff performance, conduct appraisals and deal with disciplinary issues that may arise
• Demonstrate leadership, decision making and organisational skills necessary to efficiently meet performance requirements in a changing work environment
• Make recommendations on all aspects of the operation, seeking to identify opportunities to improve performance and productivity
• Organise and co-ordinate work within their area of responsibility
• Form part of the assessment panel for probationary employees.
• Resolve operational issues within a designated area or group.
• Ensure Occupational Health and Safety and security programmes are adhered to.
• Ongoing reviews of operational processes and recommend necessary change
• Provide customer service and help resolve day-to-day key operational issues
• Form part of the assessment panel for probationary employees

• Participate in projects as directed by management
• Support and participate in the recruitment process
• Monitor the progress of new employees
• Resolve operational issues within a designated area or group.
• Report and investigation accidents and incidents
• Help maintain training and maintenance records
• Relieve Operational Controller when necessary and provide senior assistance and guidance.
• Communicate openly with the Operational Controller on any matters that may affect daily flight operations.
• Perform various administrative duties and undertake projects as required
• Ability to meet deadlines, exercise initiative, discretion, and judgment within a range of skills and knowledge
• Work down to help fulfil operational duties as required. This includes holding relevant qualifications.

What we are looking for

• Apply detailed knowledge of company policies and procedures
• Apply detailed understanding of airline systems
• Apply detailed knowledge of Government regulations
• Ability to resolve operational issues within a designated area or group.
• Acquire a detailed knowledge of customs and quarantine requirements with respect to the movement of freight, live animals and luggage on international flights.
