Role Purpose

The Mishandled Baggage Officer is responsible for delivering timely, accurate, and customer-focused baggage services by investigating, tracing, and resolving mishandled baggage incidents. The role ensures effective management of lost, delayed, damaged, and pilfered baggage claims while maintaining compliance with airline policies, regulatory requirements, and service level standards. Through proactive communication with passengers, airline clients, and operational stakeholders, the Mishandled Baggage Officer works to minimise disruption, provide positive customer outcomes, and protect the reputation of both Menzies Aviation and its airline partners.

What you will be doing

  • Conduct passenger check-in using manual and DCS systems, verify travel documents, issue boarding passes, allocate seating, process baggage, and ensure compliance with airline, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service by assessing passenger needs, assisting wheelchair (WCHR) and Meet and Assist (MAAS) passengers, resolving travel enquiries, and supporting passengers throughout the airport journey
  • Perform gate and boarding duties, manage boarding control systems, process transit passengers, operate aerobridges, coordinate arrivals and departures, and support aircraft turnaround activities to ensure on-time operations.
  • Manage baggage acceptance and handling, investigate and resolve mishandled baggage cases, process Property Irregularity Reports (PIRs) and damaged baggage claims, trace missing baggage, coordinate deliveries, and maintain communication with customers and airline partners.
  • Adhere to workplace health and safety, security, and Dangerous Goods requirements; maintain operational equipment and work areas; complete required training; liaise with airline stakeholders; and undertake additional duties as directed within skill and competency levels.

What we are looking for

  • Demonstrates professional, courteous, and effective verbal and written communication when interacting with passengers, airline clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintains a high level of accuracy when processing baggage records, claims, reports, and system updates, ensuring compliance with airline requirements. 
  • Proficient in computer systems and typing, with the ability to efficiently manage documentation, correspondence, and baggage tracing systems.
  • Possesses strong organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and deliver accurate outcomes in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Maintains a high standard of personal presentation and is able to work a seven-day rotational roster while adapting to operational and customer service demands.
