Role Purpose

Maintain and enhance appropriate and efficient safety systems, controls and protocols to ensure all operations remain fully compliant with all relevant company, industry, regulatory and legislative requirements.

What you will be doing

  • Ensure that policies & procedures are carried out in accordance with:
  • Menzies Policies & Procedures (ensure oversight in line with the GOMs and associated manuals including the 8-pillar program).
  • Government (Federal, State & Local) Regulations
  • Customer Airline requirements
  • Safety, & Compliance SOP's are current & maintained and implemented
  • SMART – audits are conducted as required, & any CAR's issued rectified, all within the required timeframe
  • Safety & Security Meetings are conducted to schedule, & as required
  • Emergency Response Procedures are current (& applicable drills held)
  • Cases of injury (including Workers Compensation) are handled in accordance with Menzies Policies & state Legislation. This is done in conjunction with the HR Department.
  • Ensuring that staff are motivated through effective delivery of Safety presentations and the upkeep of the SLS system.
  • Ensure delivery of the highest quality content & standards to meet our customers' SLA and achieving compliance
  • Maintain and enhance appropriate and efficient safety and security systems, controls and protocols to ensure all departments remain fully compliant with all relevant company, industry, regulatory and legislative requirements
  • Ensuring the safe, secure and consistent delivery of the Menzies product at all airports and off-site operations in the region of responsibility.
  • Ensure delivery of the highest quality content & standards to meet our customers' SLA and achieving compliance with the customers' Ground Handling Manuals (GHM's)
  • Lead and participate in safety & security audits, maintain and Conduct Risk Assessments and Investigations and provide management reports 
  • Oversee and Manage the various Safety Management Systems (ie MORSE, SMART, Q5, MARS, Qliksense, etc)
  • Ensure upkeep of training manuals and SLS Board briefings
  • Promoting and driving MORSE ‘safety first' culture within the business including MORSE Compliance, reporting and investigations
  • Assist in external audits from Statutory Authorities & Customer Airlines, etc.
  • Represent MA at industry forums as required ie SACL meetings etc
  • Ensure compliance in all areas of quality, safety, training and environmental.
  • Ability to work down as directed

What we are looking for

  • Business acumen and the ability to build strong working relationships with people and organisations
  • A sound understanding of Health & Safety regulatory/compliance issues within the aviation industry, particularly in the context of Cargo, baggage and passenger handling operations
  • Ability to identify and proactively address Security, Health & Safety needs for staff
  • Demonstrated success in driving continuous improvements with relation to policies, processes and systems to deliver improved compliance and safety outcomes
  • A flexible and can-do attitude, with the ability to flex between coaching others and rolling up your sleeves and implementing actions
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels and influence others in a positive way
  • Organisation and planning skills, with the ability and initiative to react effectively and quickly to unexpected circumstances
  • Ability to think critically, evaluate situations, and ask necessary questions to achieve investigative conclusions
  • Sound Computer & Microsoft 365 Knowledge (ie Power Automate, MS Forms, Word, Excel, etc)
  • DAMP supervisor qualification and or Lead Auditor Qualification (highly desirable)
  • Tertiary Qualification in OH&S or commitment to complete
