Menzies Aviation is an independent, time-critical logistics specialist serving the airline industry. At more than 200 locations in 37 countries, Menzies Aviation offers landside and airside services tailored to customers’ needs; timed to their schedules; and delivered by teams with the knowledge, tools and passion to set standards rather than chase them.

The position will exist within Head Office’s Group Secretariat team and will involve supporting the Group’s Data Protection Officer with ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) and the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).  Being a global company, the role will be based at Edinburgh Park but may require travel on a business-needs basis.


Main accountabilities include:

  • Supporting the DPO in monitoring all applicable data protection laws, regulations and codes of conduct (as they develop from time to time) and providing practical support and guidance to the Group’s operations
  • Providing input into policy and procedure development and assisting in the regular review of these when required
  • Assisting in responding to requests from individuals exercising their rights under the DPA and the GDPR
  • Understand the concept of data protection by design and help support its facilitation throughout the business
  • Supporting the DPO in coordinating the Group data mapping exercise
  • Providing guidance with Data Protection Impact Assessments to ensure risks to new or existing data processing activities are identified and managed
  • Maintaining and managing privacy metrics and performance dashboards for Senior Management review
  • Coordinating data protection-related actions resulting from internal and/or external audits
  • Ensuring registrations with the Information Commissioner’s Office are maintained
  • Working closely with the Group Data Protection Officer and the Data Protection Project Team to support the Data Protection Programme


Key Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficient knowledge of data protection laws and awareness of relevant guidelines
  • Experience in/exposure to regulatory, compliance, risk or legal function
  • Ability to understand complex legislation and provide guidance in a specific and clear business-focused manner
  • Detailed knowledge of the latest Information Commissioner’s Office guidance on data protection
  • Strong communication skills
  • Highly motivated and proactive
  • Able to work independently
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with both internal and external stakeholders
  • CIPP/E, CIPM or other officially recognised certification would be desirable
