The purpose of the Legal Counsel role is to work as part of the legal team to provide general commercial, aviation specific and transactional legal support to the wider John Menzies Group businesses.


Candidate requirements

• Able to communicate and present clearly, calmly and cogently both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrates commercial pragmatism in interpretation and communication of contractual issues.
• Demonstrable ability to review and advise on new legislation, case law and other developments.
• Enjoys working as part of a team, but also thrives working autonomously.
• Ability to prioritise and manage own workload, engage confidently and appropriately with internal and external stakeholders, and implement solution-based approach to advice.
• Fluent English required. Spanish language is highly desirable.

Qualifications and Experience

• Qualifying Law Degree and admission as solicitor or equivalent in a common law jurisdiction.
• Demonstrable contracts, transactional (M&A/JV) and commercial legal work experience.
• Experience within a relevant or similar field, industry or sector preferred (aviation, transport, infrastructure, outsourcing, services).
• Role expected to suit a practicing lawyer with around 2-6 years PQE.
• Experience in private practice or as part of an in-house legal department is essential.
• Experience of international trade laws is desirable.
