FAQ

1. Airside Passes

As we are sure you will understand, working in any airport environment requires rigorous security checks.

Anyone who works in restricted airport zones, commonly referred to as ‘airside’ needs an ‘Airside Security Pass’. To obtain this pass requires robust reference checks to be undertaken on each individual to validate safety and security. This is a requirement which is mandated by each airport so we at Menzies Aviation are required to adhere to these airport standards.

In addition to passing our recruitment process, for you to meet the requirements to hold a pass, we must be able to satisfactorily receive the following for you:

Referencing for the last five years for each period over 28 days, essentially, a record of everything you have been doing for the last 5 years.

This can include:

  • Employment References
  • Unemployment References - through job centres and benefits agencies
  • Student/Education References - for full time education (School, College, University)
  • Agency Reference - where work had been undertaken through an employment agency
  • Self-Employment References - through Accountants, Solicitor or Inland Revenue Officials
  • Gap Reference - for any period of 28 days or more, for example, housewife or househusband, student on a gap year, holidays over 28 days. This type of reference can not cover a period of more than 12 months or be provided by a relative or someone living at the same address as you.

Exact dates, not just months, need to be provided for each period of time together with the nature of activity plus the name and contact details of your referee.

For example:

We understand that providing this level of detail to us can be a lengthy process so we have designed our application process to make this as straight forward for you as possible. We hope that you understand the importance of this security procedure.

In addition to the 5 year referencing, to be issued with an airside pass, we also need to obtain a Criminal Record Disclosure to confirm that you do not have any previous unspent convictions. This would be applied for, together with the references, once you have accepted the offer of a position.
